Located in the heart in Rutherglen’s charming gold-rush era main street, Mr Shadrack Platt Gollings purchased the historic Victoria Hotel on Tuesday 14th February 1888 for 575 pounds. Working with Architects of Rutherglen and Melbourne, he replaced the original wooden structure with 350,000 bricks to build a two-storey building with rear wings and a large stable block, a decorative rendered façade, a cast-iron veranda and an ornate parapet.
Gollings Square, the small park located between the Rutherglen IGA supermarket and the Post office was named after Shadrack Gollings.
